Inaugurated in 1847 to a design by the architect Giuseppe Cappellini, the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno holds one of the rarest features in Italian theatre architecture: a great crystal vault carried by an iron framework, among the earliest examples of iron-and-glass architecture in Italy. Through it, daylight descends into the hall — the same light as in 1847 — and becomes the heart of the project “Il Teatro della Luce” (The Theater of the Light).
